Common Misconceptions
Hypnotism is Mind Control?
In a state of hypnosis you are still aware and alert to what is going on around you. Your free will is still in tack and you are in complete control.
Hypnosis can make you reveal secrets or perform embarrassing acts
Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation much like meditation. In the trance state, the brain is open to suggestions and determines which suggestions it will accept or utilize. Hypnotist provide useful suggestions to the client based on their goals. The client is in control at all times and will only accept suggestions that their subconscious mind will find important to their individual growth and development.
Other forms of stage hypnosis provide suggestions to entertain and amuse others. Again, the person being hypnotized is accepting all suggestions and performing of their own free will and desire.
Hypnosis is a Miracle Cure
While hypnosis can be incredibly powerful it should not be used as a substitute for medical or mental health support. Any person working with medical providers and psychotherapist are urged to consult with their practitioner and take guidance to treat their conditions. Hypnosis can be a wonderful compliment to other healing work but should not be used as a cure all.
I can't be hypnotized
Most people can be hypnotized because they have committed themselves to change and self-improvement. Some people struggle to fully relax into the experience because they spend the majority of their day being overstimulated and rarely practice relaxation techniques. For others, they can be held back by secondary gains that make the process of change overwhelming.
